QoS-Compliant 3-D Deployment Optimization Strategy for UAV Base Stations

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are being integrated as an active element in 5G and beyond networks. Because of their flexibility mobility, UAV base stations (UAV-BSs) can be deployed according to the ground user distributions quality-of-service (QoS) requirement. Although there has been quite some prior research on deployment, no work studied this problem a 3-D setting taken into account UAV-BS capacity limit QoS requirements users. Therefore, article, we focus deploying UAV-BSs provide satisfactory wireless communication services, with aim maximize total number covered equipment subject data-rate UAV-BSs' limit. First, model relationship between air-to-ground path loss (PL) location both horizontal vertical dimensions, which not considered previous works. Unlike conventional deployment formulation, is decoupled 2-D placement altitude determination connected by PL requirement minimization. Then, propose novel genetic algorithm-based approach placed have maximum coverage users consideration data rate distribution. Finally, numerical simulation results show that proposed enabled better percentage comparing other schemes.
